Director Mykyta Novokhatsky (Nick Newcastle) has started filming a new project called “Ellegy”. This is a touching story about a father and son who face a difficult time in their lives as they mourn the loss of someone close. The filming will be completed soon and at the beginning of the next year the most magical part of the filmmaking process starts – post-production!

Last year, ECG Productions won a grant to produce a new documentary – Russian Muses Captivating Canada. The film is dedicated to the tour of the outstanding Russian artists in Canada such as composer Sergey Rachmaninov, ballerina Anna Pavlova, opera singer Fyodor Chaliapin and their influence on Canadian culture. Our film crew had a chance to spend a few days filming in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Despite the infamous Russian winter we managed to make some amazing footage. Next step will be shooting in Canada!

ECG Productions continues to work on a web-series called Catch The Melody.
The events of the show take place today. Due to a global pandemic, a young family lives in self-isolation in their home. The main characters Nick and his dad Daniel make big plans for their musical future. As they work to create their outstanding hit, they outcome various family problems, make new friends and edge closer towards their claim to world fame.

ECG Productions is working on the documentary When the Monuments Speak. This project is dedicated to the rich history of Polish emigration to Canada, as well as the history of Polish-Canadian relations. You will learn about Polish traditions and customs and hear amazing personal stories the Polish community has to share. The documentary is built around the monuments associated with the pages of Polish and Canadian history. More than a dozen monuments have been erected across Canada to commemorate important and dramatic events. There is a monument to Pope John Paul II who was Polish by nationality and visited Canada numerous times; a monument to the victims of Katyn and to Polish pilots who fought in the Canadian army during the Second World War and many more!  The film will be completed and ready for distribution in 2022.

ECG Productions is finishing work on the first season of the documentary project Gulag Witnesses. This documentary project is dedicated to the tragic fate of people who ended up in prisons and camps during the reign of dictator Joseph Stalin in the USSR.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Russian novelist and historian, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1970 called Gulag “a meat grinder of human souls.” Gulag’s history is woven from hundreds of thousands of human lives that have passed through prisons and camps, written in the blood and death of prisoners. The film Director Olga Antimony unfolds this story through the memories of prisoners and those who guarded them. This creative technique immerses you in the events and characters. We are planning to start filming the second season of Gulag Witnesses in 2022.

On Saturday, October 30, 2021 the  ECG Productions team had a chance to attend and film a concert of the famous Canadian musician Donne Roberts and his band “Baobab Cherry”. Donne Roberts is a two times Juno Award Winner, the Canada’s most prestigious music award. Born in Madagascar, raised in Russia, he has lived and worked in Toronto for the past 25 years. His repertoire includes songs in different languages: English, French, Malagasy, Russian and even Japanese. The name of the group – “Baobab Cherry” has a special meaning. The baobab tree is a symbol of the island of Madagascar, the homeland of Donne Roberts, and the cherry is a symbol of Japan, Ken Yoshioka’s and Yukiko Tsutsui’s homeland. Donne, Yukiko and Ken presented a new fusion program called Moscow Nights: from Madagascar to Tokyo. Stay tuned for the concert video that we will post on our YouTube channel in the near future. Sounds of Quebec episode features the award-winning and highly acclaimed band Le Vent du Nord is a leading force in Quebec’s progressive francophone folk movement. In this documentary, the musicians will take you on an incredible journey to their studio to show you a behind-the-scenes look at their working process, and to Montreal for their new album launch performance. This film combines unique Québec traditional music and winter.

We are happy to announce that our two films have been selected to compete in prestigious international film festivals. On November 3, 2021 we will find out if the documentary Sounds of Quebec (Director: Irina Volkova) will receive the International Music Video Award. And on November 28, 2021 the documentary Boris Volkoff – the Russian Father of the Canadian Ballet (Director: Maksim Kravchinskii) will take part in the competition program at the Golden Unicorn Awards & Russian Film Week.
