Diwali – the Festival of Lights

Today, on October 24, 2022 many people from all over the world celebrate Dewali, the five-day long festival originated in the Indian subcontinent.

Diwali, Deepavali, or Divali, also known as the Festival of Lights is a Hindu religious festival and one of the most important festivals within Hinduism. Diwali is known for the brightly burning clay lamps that people put outside their homes, tasty food, gifts and of course rangoli. Rangoli is a form of art when whimsical patterns are created on the floor or a tabletop using materials such as powdered limestone, red ochre, dry rice flour, coloured sand, quartz powder, flower petals, and coloured rocks. It is believed that evil spirits won’t harm your home by being entangled in a beautiful rangoli pattern.

During the Diwali celebration, beautiful music is played everywhere, and delicious treats are prepared for guests. ECG Productions wishes you a Diwali that brings happiness prosperity and joy to you and all your family!

Celebrating Thanksgiving Day

Did you know that Thanksgiving Day is celebrated only in two countries – the United States and Canada? This holiday appeared thanks to the first English settlers, who moored on November 21, 1620 on the Mayflower ship to the shores of the North America. Thanksgiving Day is celebrated with relatives and closest friends. The holiday dinner usually consists of baked turkey in cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. The celebration has its own traditional drink – apple cider. But you can also surprise your guests with some exotic dishes. Luc: Between Darkness and Light

Congratulations to the ECG Productions team and Film Director Marina Dessiatkina who worked on the documentary project Luc: Between Darkness and Light for winning the Best Documentary at the Open Window International Film Challenge.

This character-driven documentary follows internationally-known artist Luc Bihan who, burned out at midlife, seeks to rekindle his creativity while supervising his thriving Toronto art school.

Luc has a talent for anything he puts his hands on – sculpting, painting, managing and operating his own art school that in 13 years has become home for many other artists who teach art, from Sumi-e, to drawing, to painting, to pottery, to drumming, thus making many people happier in life by helping them discover their “inner artist” and learn various art techniques.

Luc immigrated to Canada from Europe 20 years ago, and now he finds himself leading a bohemian, but busy life that for many seems like a ‘dream come true’. However, despite his success, Luc has found himself stuck. His inability to create indicates that his life has gone in a wrong direction. What is creativity and where is it coming from?

Luc: Between Darkness and Light will explore whether the artist will be able to achieve stillness and energy to create again.

Assiatou: The Rebellious Run

If you are already familiar with our award-winning series Dream Big you may know that each episode is dedicated to a strong and successful immigrant woman. More often than not women’s paths to successful careers are often riddled with obstacles and prejudices associated with their national or cultural traditions.

The episode that we would like to present today is about Assiatou Madina Diallo who is a Toronto entrepreneur, mother and recognized feminist. Despite many unfortunate and even tragic events in her life, Assiatou has always believed that she could be the best of the best, and it was either all or nothing. This cheerful and outgoing woman may seem to be naturally thriving in any environment, however, she suffered many hardships growing up in Guinea, a small country in West Africa. Watch this inspiring story today!

Have you ever been or dreamed of going to Argentina?! Then you may know that this magnificent country is famous for its Tango! Today we would like to introduce you to the Argentinian Sounds of Canada episode where the famous Payadora band from Toronto is likely to surprise you with its Tango version that exudes technical virtuosity, playful spontaneity, and rhythmic vitality.

Payadora is a contemporary chamber music ensemble that performs Argentinian/Uruguayan tango and folk music and original compositions inspired by that tradition. Tango is a unique genre and as world known dancer Carlos Gavito said: “The secret of tango is in this moment of improvisation that happens between step and step. It is to make the impossible thing possible: to dance silence”.

Steve Santini in Crazy Canuck Collections episodes

Did you know that ЕCG Productions is one of the largest producers of ethnic content in Canada? Over the years, we have made dozens of documentaries in various languages including English, French, Arabic, Ukrainian, Portuguese, Russian, Vietnamese, Hindi and Japanese.
Not so long ago we finished a documentary project called “Crazy Canuck Collections” dedicated to breathtaking collections and collectors. While working on the episodes we were lucky to meet a unique person – an actor, illusionist, showman, collector, writer and researcher Steve Santini (pictured). We were so impressed with Steve and his passion for collecting a wide range of unusual objects that we filmed 2 episodes with him. One of the documentaries was dedicated to his collection of artifacts related to the sinking of the Titanic. The second episode was about Steve’s unique collection of medieval instruments of torture.

International Women’s Day

ECG Productions congratulates all women on this holiday and wishes them good health & happiness!

Historically, this holiday originated as the Day of Women’s Solidarity when many women around the Globe were struggling for equal rights and emancipation. It is believed that it was first celebrated on February 28, 1908.

At the international level, March 8 became a holiday in 1975 and was initiated by the UN General Assembly and only in 1977 it was declared as International Women’s Day. Today many countries including Canada celebrate social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

A few years ago, ECG Productions completed the Dream Big project dedicated to inspiring stories of immigrant women who came to Canada from different countries and, despite all the difficulties and obstacles, were able to achieve their dreams. Today we would like to invite you to watch the episodes and choose your favorite!
