Our esteemed colleague and project overseer, Maxim Kravchinsky, engaged in an insightful dialogue with the distinguished artist Mikhail Chapiro. Renowned for his masterpieces such as the portrait of Maya Plisetskaya housed within the esteemed St. Petersburg Theater Museum, Chapiro’s oeuvre spans a diverse spectrum of styles, ranging from picturesque landscapes to evocative abstractions.

This is a touching story about a father and son who face a difficult time in their lives as they mourn the loss of someone close. The filming will be completed soon and at the beginning of the next year the most magical part of the filmmaking process starts – post-production!

ECG Productions presents a new episode of the Crazy Canuck Collections project dedicated to Tin Soldiers.

The main character – Oleg Sokruto is rightfully considered one of the most famous collectors of tin soldiers not only in Canada, but also in the world. Oleg was born in the city of Leningrad now Sankt-Petersburg. “The city was regarded as a cultural capital of Soviet Union. In 1962 there was a 150 anniversary of the War of 1812 and the famous movie by Serguei Bondarchuk after Tolstoy’s “War and Peace” was in production.”- says Oleg.  “I saw images from the movie on the post envelope and could not have stopped asking my parents what it is, what is the movie about, why there are so many colourful soldiers on the pictures, how can get the book. From this time I have started the long way to my dream. Toy soldiers were always in my life but my dreams and love belonged to a little flat figure. In the 17 century some Nuremberg pewterers have made few tin figures as toys for their own kids. But very soon this figures became popular outside Nuremberg and eventually found their way to other countries. Flat figure became a popular and cheap toy, There was an enormous variety of subjects on the market, they were used not only like toys but also for dioramas and finally they became collectible. My work in the Hermitage Museum, which I entered in 1988 and changes in the country, expand of my foreign contact with German, English and French collectors led to me idea to create my own figures”.

Congratulations to the ECG Productions team and Film Director Marina Dessiatkina who worked on the documentary project  Luc: Between Darkness and Light  for winning the Best Documentary at the Open Window International Film Challenge.

This character-driven documentary follows internationally-known artist Luc Bihan who, burned out at midlife, seeks to rekindle his creativity while supervising his thriving Toronto art school.

Luc has a talent for anything he puts his hands on – sculpting, painting, managing and operating his own art school that in 13 years has become home for many other artists who teach art, from Sumi-e, to drawing, to painting, to pottery, to drumming, thus making many people happier in life by helping them discover their “inner artist” and learn various art techniques.

Luc immigrated to Canada from Europe 20 years ago, and now he finds himself leading a bohemian, but busy life that for many seems like a ‘dream come true’. However, despite his success, Luc has found himself stuck. His inability to create indicates that his life has gone in a wrong direction. What is creativity and where is it coming from?

Luc: Between Darkness and Light will explore whether the artist will be able to achieve stillness and energy to create again.

We are excited to announce the first public screening of the documentary film Expelled From the Top: a story of Tibetan refugees! The event will take place at the Tibetan Canadian Cultural center on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 7:00PM.
After 70 years, Tibetan refugees still struggle to find justice and resolution. ECG productions followed Sonam Choeden, a Tibetan refugee, devoted mother separated from her three small children, Tibetan-Canadian entrepreneur, president of the Rotary Club Toronto – Forest Hill, and an honest and hard-working woman, on her emotional journey back to India to meet His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Featuring the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet, this documentary offers a candid insight into the history and culture of a nation in exile whose fate has found such a deep echo in the world.
