Our team is continuing its work on the project “Nation’s Memory on the Artist’s Palette” directed by Anastasiia Mateshko. Last week our film crew visited the workshop of the Ukrainian artist Oleh Lesiuk where he kindly demonstrated to us his current project – the painting of iconostasis.
Oleh Lesiuk was born in 1959 in Lviv and moved to Canada in 1992. He graduated with honors from the Lviv State Institute of Applied & Decorative Arts (1981) and taught sculpture at the Trush College of Applied Art (1982-1992). Oleh works in the studio and monumental sculpture and murals. Throughout his artistic journey, he has created monuments, parks sculptures, murals, and memorial plaques. Since 1980, Oleh Lesiuk participated in group exhibits in Ukraine, Russia, Italy, the USA, and Canada and organized 3 wood sculpture symposiums. He received many awards including the Medal of the Ukrainian World Congress commemorating Shevchenko’s birth (2015).
