In the coming weeks, our team will be tirelessly working on the filming process, and we are excited to share some behind-the-scenes moments with our followers. Stay tuned for updates and exclusive photos!

Our company continues to work on the series “GULAG. Witnesses.” The next eight episodes will be devoted to the topic of Ukrainians in the Gulag. “Executed Revival” is the name of a group of Ukrainian intelligentsia destroyed by the Stalinist repressive machine in the 30s. “Ukrainians in the Gulag”, “Ukrainian women in the Gulag”, “Uprisings in Stalin’s camps”, and “Holodomor as a form of repression against the Ukrainian people”. To work on the series, our film crew went to Ukraine. On May 19, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Stalin’s Repressions.

We are excited to share with our followers that the ECG Productions team led by Anastasiia Mateshko is currently engaged in a new project titled “The Nation’s Memory on the Artist’s Palette”. The year 2025 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Ukrainian Association of Visual Artists of Canada (USOM), For all this time USOM has been a creative force in the Ukrainian community in Canada, and the artworks created by its members decorated cities across our country. Today, USOM unites about fifty artists of Ukrainian origin throughout Canada. These are representatives of different generations, from those who came to Canada in the 1940s after
World War II to the very young who are in Canada today, fleeing a hostile invasion. But the
the main thing that unites each of them is love for their homeland, respect for their roots,
ancestors and traditions, which is reflected in their art.

The ECG Productions team is launching a new project “Virsky: The Dance of Freedom”, directed by Mike Newcastle. This upcoming feature documentary will tell its viewers about the history of the Ukrainian National Folk Dance Ensemble. Here’s a sneak peek into one of the interviews featuring a former member Leonid Koretsky.

Every February, people across Canada participate in Black History Month events that honor the legacy of Black people in Canada. This is the time to remind our followers about the ECG Productions award-winning film “Toronto Caribbean Carnival: Fun and Free” directed by Irina Volkova. It tells the story of the grand parade born out of slavery and the history of Caribbean colonization and emancipation. Last month our team had a chance to visit the KUMF Gallery in Toronto, a home to the Ukrainian Canadian Art Foundation. Through exhibitions and organized workshops, it inspires the revival and preservation of national memory and serves as the cornerstone of Toronto’s and Canada’s vibrant Ukrainian-Canadian visual arts community.

One of the people who has a close connection with the UCAF and KUMF Gallery is Ivan Lazirko, a Ukrainian artist currently living and working in Canada. The central theme of his work is the Ukrainian woman. By focusing on the elements of national costumes and introducing easily recognizable iconic images (a viburnum branch, an ear of corn, a little white house), the artist makes it clear that this female image is a symbol of Ukraine.

Mr. Lazirko kindly allowed our filming crew to visit his artistic headquarters and see his sketches for a portrait of the prima ballerina of the Ukrainian National Opera and Ballet Theater, which was on tour in Toronto these days.

Such a variety of places and events our film crews had a chance to visit and film! Today, for example, we worked in a very beautiful Hindu temple in Brampton, which was decorated by a talented artist from Toronto, Alexey Dymov. At the end of March, we want to present a short film to our viewers on how the artist’s vision came to life.

Filming for ECG Productions is thrilled to share another exciting update on our ongoing documentary project centered around the captivating life of Igor Gouzenko. Last week, our crew was filming in Scarborough, Ontario.
For those unfamiliar with the name, Igor Gouzenko was a former Soviet intelligence officer who defected to Canada in 1945. His brave act of espionage revelations played a pivotal role in the Cold War, forever altering the course of history. Gouzenko’s story is one of courage, intrigue, and the relentless pursuit of truth.
While we cannot reveal all the details just yet, we can assure you that this documentary will be a gripping exploration of one man’s sacrifice and the far-reaching impact it had on the world stage. Follow us on social media, and join us on this extraordinary journey as we delve into the life of Igor Gouzenko and the events that shaped his legacy. Together, let’s uncover the truth that lies hidden in the shadows of history.
