A famous choreographer and drum player Mi Young Kim is one of the leading figures in the Korean-Canadian cultural world. She founded the Mi Young Kim Folk Dance Institute in Toronto in 1979. In 1987 the company was renamed to the Korean Dance Studies Society of Canada. In 2019, Mi Young Kim and her ensemble were featured in the film Korean Sounds of Canada done by ECG Productions.
