Our team in Ukraine persists in their journey, resolute in gathering more documentary material for the project on Ukrainians in the Gulag. Passing through Korosten in the Drevlyansky region, they were struck by the abundance of acacia blossoms, reminiscent of 1933. In those desperate times, people survived by collecting, drying, grinding the blossoms into flour, and making flat cakes and jelly. During this visit, the team had a brief opportunity to reconnect with relatives and hear their stories from the past two years. A tablecloth with century-old handmade embroidery and old photographs provided poignant reminders of the past. Though the war did not reach this area, its presence was felt nearby. Along the way, they stumbled upon the Sadiba Babina Loza farm, a fully developed estate situated next to the house where the director’s grandmother once lived.
