Celebrating the Legacy of Virsky: The Dance of FreedomÂ
Over the past months, our team has made significant strides in the documentary project “Virsky: The Dance of Freedom,” produced under the expert guidance of the acclaimed Felix Golubev (@golubev.felix). Through in-depth interviews and research, we’ve uncovered the incredible story of how the Virsky Ensemble became a pillar of cultural continuity and generational succession, standing strong through the challenges of the Soviet era and the ongoing struggles faced by Ukraine today.
Our director, Nick Newcastle, had the honor of interviewing legends like Sergei Makarov and Miroslav Vantuh, Victor Gachenko along with their younger successors Yevgen Tregubov, Victor Osadchyy, Volodymyr Oliyarnik, Olga Oleksienko. These photos capture just a glimpse of the extraordinary individuals who have contributed to the Virsky legacy:
- Sergei Makarov:Â A choreographic genius and one of the last to be directly taught by Pavlo Virsky. For nearly 20 years, his rigorous and precise dance instruction has been sought after worldwide.
- Miroslav Vantuh:Â A long-standing artistic director and choreographer who has left an indelible mark on Ukrainian culture. His leadership continues to inspire future generations of dancers and choreographers.
- Yevgen Tregubov: A soloist who toured internationally with Virsky under Myroslav Vantuhk’s direction. Now residing in Calgary, Alberta, Yevgen continues to pass on the Virsky legacy to the next generation, including his sons.
It has been a profound honor for our team to engage with these remarkable members of the Virsky Ensemble and witness the enduring legacy they uphold.
