Sandra: an Inspiring Story

Watch an inspiring story about Sandra Yeung Racco a City Councillor in Vaughn.

Sandra was born in Hong Kong, raised in Ontario, studied music and obtained her A.R.C.T. at the Royal Conservatory of Music and graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. After graduation, she ventured into the world of international business relations. However, it was her volunteer work with local non-profit community organizations and her experience working with diverse boards and committees across Toronto and Vaughan that endowed her with a nuanced appreciation of the fabric of the local community.

In 2003 she was elected as a Councillor for the first time. She is currently the longest serving Asian female politician in the City of Vaughan and York Region.

If you are already familiar with our award-winning series Dream Big you may know that each episode is dedicated to a strong and successful immigrant woman. More often than not women’s paths to successful careers are often riddled with obstacles and prejudices associated with their national or cultural traditions.

The episode that we would like to present today is about Assiatou Madina Diallo who is a Toronto entrepreneur, mother and recognized feminist. Despite many unfortunate and even tragic events in her life, Assiatou has always believed that she could be the best of the best, and it was either all or nothing. This cheerful and outgoing woman may seem to be naturally thriving in any environment, however, she suffered many hardships growing up in Guinea, a small country in West Africa. Among many documentary projects that ECG Productions releases each year one stands out in particular. It took the team 3 full years to complete Dream Big but hard work paid off. Each episode is dedicated to a true story told by an immigrant woman living in Canada. Their stories are about struggles and victories, joys and sorrows and, of course, true love. Some episodes have been highly acclaimed by viewers and the professional community and have won awards at prestigious international festivals. Today we would like to bring to your attention 2 episodes that won’t leave you indifferent. The first episode is dedicated to the fate of Gila, who immigrated to Canada from Israel and the second tells an inspiring story of a Toronto entrepreneur Lucia who came from Italy.

International Women’s Day

ECG Productions congratulates all women on this holiday and wishes them good health & happiness!

Historically, this holiday originated as the Day of Women’s Solidarity when many women around the Globe were struggling for equal rights and emancipation. It is believed that it was first celebrated on February 28, 1908.

At the international level, March 8 became a holiday in 1975 and was initiated by the UN General Assembly and only in 1977 it was declared as International Women’s Day. Today many countries including Canada celebrate social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

A few years ago, ECG Productions completed the Dream Big project dedicated to inspiring stories of immigrant women who came to Canada from different countries and, despite all the difficulties and obstacles, were able to achieve their dreams. Today we would like to invite you to watch the episodes and choose your favorite!
