One of our team members is currently traveling to Ukraine as part of her new documentary project. Life of every human being can be turned into a documentary but extreme circumstances like war make these stories even more urgent, raw. They strip life down to its core—revealing resilience, fear, hope, and the quiet strength people carry through unimaginable realities. Documenting such moments is not just storytelling; it’s bearing witness. Here is a short impression Olga Antimony was able to make on her way from Chełm to Kyiv.
The conductor, Inna, recalls the early days of Russia’s full-scale invasion: twenty people would cram into a single compartment. They didn’t take belongings — they brought their pets. Cats, dogs, mice, fish.
At each station, volunteers would toss water and sandwiches into the train.
A truly people’s war. No orders, no instructions. Just the instinct to help those nearby.
Inna speaks of her brother — Oleh Lozovyi, callsign “Kum”, who was killed near Vodiane in late July 2024. In every Ukrainian family — someone dead, maimed, or wounded.
Long-suffering Ukraine endures. On the fragile shoulders of women. On memory. On pain. On faith.”
