Leonid Trofimov is a historian specializing in various aspects of the Russian Revolution. He was born in Novosibirsk, where he graduated from the Faculty of History at Novosibirsk University. In 2004, he earned his PhD at the University of Illinois at Chicago, defending his dissertation on «The Russian Revolution and Its Global Impact.» He is currently a Professor of History at Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada.

Leonid Trofimov’s research interests cover multiple aspects of the Russian Revolution, including its causes, course of events, and consequences both within Russia and on the international stage. He is the author of several books, including «Seven Myths of the Russian Revolution» (2023), «Russia in War and Revolution 1914–1922», «World History in Conversations», «The Revolution of Modern Europe», and «The Cold War.»

Leonid Trofimov has agreed to serve as a historical consultant for our GULAG project, providing expert insights and historical analysis. His deep understanding of Soviet history and repressive systems will contribute to creating a comprehensive and accurate narrative about the GULAG.

Beyond his academic work, Leonid Trofimov actively participates in public discussions and frequently provides political commentary on CBC. His expertise is highly regarded both in academic circles and among the broader public audience.
