“We’ve just finished watching all eight episodes. Of course, you have created a truly unique film. The book itself is extraordinary, unlike anything else, and the film turned out to be even more multifaceted and grand in scale.
I was particularly struck by the props used in the filming. Everything so accurately conveys the spirit of that era! The cherry jam made by Lidiya Boyko’s character stands out especially — it feels so real, as if you could smell and taste it…
The archival footage and movie fragments are perfectly selected and seamlessly integrated. The same goes for the musical score.
It’s great that you incorporated such a wide variety of sources, especially literary ones: books by Solzhenitsyn, Varlamov, Zhzhenov, Razgon, Ginzburg, the Rakhlin family, and many others, as well as the famous works of artist Pyotr Belov and drawings by Yevfrosinia Antonovna Kersnovskaya.
I won’t even mention the computer graphics — everything is done at the highest level.
My deepest gratitude to everyone involved. I believe I have the right to express thanks on behalf of my grandfather and grandmother, who were evicted in the winter of 1931 from their own home and left with their children in a cold barn. They were spared deportation to Siberia but still suffered greatly during collectivization and beyond…
This country — I don’t even know what to call it… After all this, they are now erecting monuments to Stalin, and many dream of reviving the Young Pioneers and Little Octobrists. Of course, much of what we face now is the result of what wasn’t done in the early 1990s. There was no proper reckoning with this nightmare, no real trial of the regime and its criminals.
Undoubtedly, when this criminal and illegitimate Putin regime collapses, we must take all of this into account. This is a great lesson for everyone. The priority must be to dismantle this regime as quickly as possible because they have completely lost their minds. Madness is unfolding before our eyes…
So, thank you, and I’ll be waiting for the next eight episodes. It would be wonderful if the series were broadcast on channels like Dozhd or Current Time, or anywhere else with a Russian-speaking audience.
Looking forward to the new episodes!”
